Weekly Update #111

Hello FieldClock Users!

Another week of harvest in the books! This weeks update is an extension of last weeks, namely acknowledging the site's slowness and providing an update on what's being done about it. Before we jump in, we'd like to say that can't thank you enough for your patience while we work through this. We hope the below explanation answers some of your questions and alleviates some of your concerns.

What's Happening?

To start, we've seen phenomenal growth in the last year and we currently have more 'active' Workers (and Users) on our platform than we've ever had before. This is of course great, but with it comes some growing pains.

One of those pains being felt is in the form of slower than usual load times on the Admin site. Due to the sheer amount of people using our platform, our infrastructure needs to be 'upgraded' and optimized to handle the large amounts of traffic and requests (i.e. the request to finalize a Job). Our platform has brought us this far relatively pain free. In order to transition to the next phase, we need to make some improvements, which we've outlined below.

What are we doing about it?

There comes a point when a certain amount of Users increases so much that the system starts to slow down. As mentioned above, we are currently in that phase. In order to take us (and you) to the next level, the following changes are currently being worked on:

  • Adding more servers to our fleet
  • Optimizing old code as a temporary fix while new code is written that's much more efficient
  • Analyzing usage patterns to better handle mobile and site traffic

While we go through this transition, pages on the Admin site may be slow. If you experience a longer than usual load time for a specific page, please try again a few minutes later. We realize this is inopportune, and we extend our sincere apologies for any inconvenience. Please know that this is just temporary and we will come out of it stronger and quicker than before.

Upcoming Releases

Most features have been put on hold until we optimize our servers to handle the increase in traffic.

Did You Know…

Finalizing Jobs the following morning, or later in the evening, may help alleviate some of the slowness: if everyone attempts to finalize Jobs around 4pm, then that particular part of our system becomes overloaded, which results in slowness while it processes everyone's requests.

Friendly Reminders

  • If data is still syncing or has not synced, do not sign out of the mobile app - data will be lost!
  • Please remember to check for device as well as FieldClock updates

Until next week!

Best Regards,
The FieldClock Team
